I am the girl who starts the effort of going to the gym on the first of the month. I start a new piece of paper if I mess up on my grocery list. And I need a clean house before I leave for vacation so that when I come home.
I love fresh starts.
So, it should come as no surprise that I love the first month of the year makes me want to set all kinds of goals. Make all kinds of lifestyle changes. Plan all of the vacations, and do all kinds of forward thinking.
But, oh the pressure of January 1! And a new decade! If you look forward to the new beginnings, but also feel overwhelming pressure to perform, let me encourage you with this…
Two observations: 1. Apparently, God likes fresh starts, and 2. God is the one doing the making.
God is an active God, and he loves new beginnings and transforming people for His glory and good through Jesus. And He holds the power to make it all happen. Because we are made in His image, we are invited to be active in making things new. We are creatives, restorers, pursuers of people, pursuers of order [not chaos]. So here we are. A fresh start, and a reminder of who holds the power. However you decide to come into the new year, be that by making resolutions, or setting goals, or choosing a word of the year, remember you don’t have to do it perfectly and completely. God takes the pressure off by being in charge. You have the freedom to fail and restart. Lean into the power of God to help you pursue good things.
