Ever since Chad told me that he associates beach vacations with Mexican Food, it’s been a thing for us to find tacos on vacation. When we went on a cruise so many years ago, we wandered the streets of Mexico looking for tacos, “from the back of a truck;” Chad’s request. On our OBX vacations, we take a day-date for a taco lunch, just the two of us. While in Maui, we found a delicious taco joint – Taqueria Cruz – which closed, but so was delicious. And in Miami, we found our favorite tacos we’ve ever had.
So, what’s better than a light-hearted taco review? Especially when it’s in Hawaii.
Located in a food truck court right as you enter Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu, this orange beacon of greatness should not be missed. But be sure to give yourself time because there is frequently a wait. We went as soon as it opened for lunch and waited about 15 minutes.
Surf n Salsa proved to be one of my favorite meals on Oahu. First, the experience. I love the picnic table dining area in the back with large umbrella’s for shade. Once you order, you walk around back and are greeted with a basket of chips and salsa while you wait. [Your first basket is on the house.] We ordered carne asada tacos and the guac, and y’all. SO. GOOD. Flavorful, colorful, a little spicy [that green sauce on the side], and fresh. Add this to your list of eats, and you won’t be disappointed.
